Welcome to the Collingswood and Oaklyn Curriculum page! Our districts are committed to providing a comprehensive curriculum that supports equitable opportunities for all students.  Our curriculum development model follows the Connected Action Roadmap (CAR) Framework and as a result, we remain committed to ensuring each content area’s curricula addresses the New Jersey Student Learning Standards, John Hattie’s Visible Learning commitments (Student Learning Intentions and Success Criteria) and multiple opportunities for gauging student success through Formative, Summative and Benchmark Assessment opportunities.  

Our districts are currently in the process of upgrading our curriculum platform.  Please note that you will find all newly revised curriculum from 2023-24 in PowerSchool’s Unified Classroom Curriculum and Instruction (formerly Chalk) and previous years in Atlas (formerly Rubicon).  Both platforms can be accessed through this page (see the icons below) and by the year 2024-25, our district will have fully transitioned to PowerSchool.  

Collingswood and Oaklyn Public Schools continually adjust the curriculum through the CAR Framework process. During Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings, teachers collaborate to discuss students’ progress with the NJ Student Learning Standards by reviewing assessment data (Benchmark, Formative, Summative) to determine levels of mastery and additional growth areas. Students are able to drive their learning by knowing the Student Learning Intention and Success Criteria for the day.  All new curriculum housed in PowerSchool’s Unified Classroom Curriculum and Instruction platform will follow the CAR Framework and the SLIs and Success Criteria are noted within .  Existing curriculum in Atlas follows the Backward Design Model.  Please use the buttons below to access curriculum (Our new PowerSchool site will not be available until September 1, 2023).  

The New Jersey Student Learning Standards - Comprehensive Health and Physical Education were revised in 2020 to address the need for students to gain knowledge and skills in caring for themselves, interacting effectively with others, and analyzing the impact of choices and consequences. These revised standards will be implemented in the 2023-24 school year. We value the importance of partnering with families as we educate students in the knowledge and skills they need in order to lead a healthy, active life. 

We invite you to examine and discuss this information with your child prior to the instructional units at school. Specifically, the content related to family life education. The curriculum explanations will be available on the district website. You are welcome to contact your child’s Physical Education/Health Teacher to preview the lessons that will be taught to your student(s). 

The Collingswood and Oaklyn Public School Districts acknowledge that parents/guardians are the primary family life educators for their child/children and we are committed to partnering with you to provide supplementary resources to support you in this role. 

Although we strongly encourage families to have their student(s) participate in these essential health topics, we want to acknowledge that Parents/Guardians do have the option of excluding their child from any portion of sexuality/family life education instruction if it is in conflict with their conscience, morally, or religiously held beliefs. (*Please see the appropriate NJ Statute below.) If this is the case, please complete the opt-out form located on the Collingswood and Oaklyn District websites and email the form to your student’s Principal and Comprehensive Health Teacher.  You will also need to notify which health topics you are opting your student(s) out of. Students who are excused will be assigned to a separate classroom for the duration of those identified lessons. Please note that a separate form must be completed for each child in your family.  

NJ Statute: Section: 18A:35-4.7: Parent's Statement of Conflict with Conscience: Any child whose parent or guardian presents to the school principal a signed statement that any part of the instructions in health, family life education or sex education is in conflict with his conscience, or sincerely held moral or religious beliefs shall be excused from that portion of the course where such instruction is being given and no penalties as to credit or graduation shall result therefrom.

Collingswood and Oaklyn School Districts are deeply committed to ensuring that schools are safe, welcoming and inclusive environments for all students regardless of race or ethnicity, sexual and gender identities, mental and physical abilities and religious beliefs. The New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) are designed to support the development of curricula that highlight the contributions and experiences of individuals with diverse abilities, cultures, identities and perspectives.   Our districts have developed comprehensive resources for all teachers and staff to use in consideration of understanding history, diverse perspectives and in support of diversity, equity and inclusion.  As a result, we have developed “Curriculum Crosswalks” to enhance instruction in our schools across all content areas.  The  “Curriculum Crosswalks” listed below have been developed in concert with our teachers, administrators and library/media specialists and can be located by grade level/category using PowerSchool’s Unified Classroom Curriculum & Instruction search tool located on this curriculum page.

The Collingswood and Oaklyn Public Schools acknowledge the importance of the teacher in the learning process and will establish a mentoring program of sufficient size and scope to ensure that a new generation of teachers will thrive in a locally based, supported learning community.
